Clean out your house or office, safely!
No more excuses! Over the next two days the city of Boston is offering several opportunities to clean out your office or house – get rid of old computers, TVs, and other electronic items, safely dispose of your confidential papers, and that hazardous waste!
Electronics (E-Waste) Recycling Days on October 8 & 9:
The City is offering businesses and residents opportunities to recycle various electronic materials, like old computers and TVs. On Friday, October 8th, pre-registered businesses, schools, non-profit organizations, colleges & universities, and hospitals can recycle their e-waste at the Bayside Expo parking lot at 200 Mount Vernon Street, Dorchester from 9AM to 2PM (pre-registration required) see this flyer. On Saturday, Oct 9th, the Bayside location will be open once again, between 9AM and 3PM for residential e-waste (no appointment necessary) see this flyer – and they will even help unload your car!
(If you miss the e-waste drop-off day, you can call 617-635-7574 or visit this website link to schedule pickup of television sets and computer monitors at your home.)
The City is also offering Free Confidential Document Shredding at the Bayside location - Boston residents can shred and recycle unwanted confidential documents on October 9, 2010 from 9AM to 3PM. Up to 10 boxes per resident are free.
On the same day October 9th, you can get rid of your Household Hazardous Waste: the City of Boston holds drop-off days a few times per year for residents to safely dispose of old paint, auto tires, insecticides and other toxic, flammable or corrosive materials that should not be thrown out in regular trash – see this flyer for list of acceptable and unacceptable materials.
The first fall Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is Saturday, October 9th, from 9AM to 2PM, at the UMASS Boston Harbor Campus,100 Morrissey Boulevard, Dorchester. If you happen to miss that date, the second collection day is on Saturday, November 13, 2010, 9AM to 2PM, at the Public Works District Yard, 315 Gardner Street, West Roxbury, at Millennium Park.
Please note: TVs & computer monitors (e-waste) are NOT accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off location, and vice versa (paint and tires are not accepted at the E-Waste location). These events are for Boston residents only, and proof of residency is required. No commercial waste will be accepted. The City reserves the right to reject materials.
