Boston R.O.C.K.S!!! (Recreational Opportunities for City Kids) has gone green, with free, drop-in green activities for Dorchester youth until mid-August.  Boston R.O.C.K.S!!! DEHC supports multicultural walk tour of Field’s Corner

Fields Corner Walking Tour Saturday, June 26, 2010 – DEHC is part of the Fields Corner Collaborative which launched the first annual MyDotTour on Dorchester Day weekend. The tours are 1-hour long informational, youth-led —the first of their kind in Dorchester. Your last chance to take a tour is on June 26, starting 10 AM from the Fields Corner T station lobby.  I urge folks to take the MyDot Tour.  It is both extremely interesting and a great way to support a positive youth activity in Dorchester.

walk & bike: 2010 Dorchester Day activities

MyDotTour Fields Corner Walking Tour kicks off on Saturday, June 5 at 10 AM.  The 1-hour tours are youth-led walking tours—the first of their kind in Dorchester.  Come to the lobby of the Fields Corner T station, where there will be a registration table.
MyDotTour youth have created the informational content of the tour by selecting local sites to highlight, researching their history, and writing scripts to deliver at each tour stop.  The tours begin promptly at 10:00am and again at 1:00pm. The suggested ticket price – $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 - supports the MyDotTour program.
And then on Sunday, June 6, join DotBike and ride in the Dorchester Day Parade, even if you don’t have your own bike!

Work with The Food Project – deadline to apply March 19

the food projectThe Food Project is currently hiring youth ages 14-17 to work 6.5 weeks, Jul 6-Aug 18. Youth earn $200 per week (before taxes), get a t-pass for transportation and also earn a 40 hr volunteer credit to use toward high school graduation requirements.

Hours are 9 AM to 4:30 PM, Mon through Fri, and you must be able to work all 6 and a half weeks. Youth participate in workshops each week, covering issues of diversity awareness, hunger and homelessness, sustainable agriculture, and personal reflection. Deadline: Mar 19.

Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) – Hiring teens and adults for this summer!

Boston Natural Areas Network is looking for teens age 15-17 to work this summer along the Neponset and East Boston Greenways and in Boston’s Urban Wilds. Teens must be registered with the Mayor’s HopeLine/Boston Youth Fund – registration through March 15th at www.bostonyouthzone.com. Mayor’s Climate Action Youth Workshop, Feb. 27

The city of Boston is updating its climate action plan goals for the years 2020 and 2050. What will it be like to live in Boston then? No one knows for sure, but anyone high school age now will be an adult by then and will be living with the results of decisions made today.
Young people have important ideas on climate change that need to be heard!

The city’s series of five Climate Action Workshops in February and March will be both educational and interactive with opportunities for attendees to provide ideas for the city’s climate action plan and energy efficiency program.  

The citywide Climate Action Youth Workshop is happening this Saturday, Feb. 27, from 11AM-2PM at Old South Church 645 Boylston Street, Copley Square. Registration will begin at 10AM. Free brunch will be served at 11AM.
 
If you are a young person consider attending to help develop recommendations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, develop a green economy, be part of the solution to climate change. Please pass the information on to your friends/co-workers. Adults please share this opportunity with the youth in your programs.
