Youth Conservation Corps: Jobs for Teens & Adult Staff!
Don’t waste your summer inside! Work as part of a team outdoors! YCC is an outdoor job opportunity for youth ages 15-17. During the summer, YCC teens work as part of team to accomplish important conservation projects on the Neponset Greenway in Dorchester and Mattapan and Stony Brook Reservation in Hyde Park. YCC teens create and maintain trails; complete native restoration projects, which attract birds, insects and other wildlife; remove invasive plant species; create murals along the Neponset and East Boston Greenways; and learn about current local and global environmental concerns.

Focus Groups Hosts & Participants Wanted
Organizations or neighborhood associations in Dorchester, Roxbury and JP interested in hosting/joining a focus group on the urban environment and neighborhood health should read the following: A research project affiliated with Clark University’s Human-Environment Regional Observatory is seeking groups of 6 to 10 participants for a series of focus groups which run between 1 to 1.5 hours. Food and small compensation provided. Sessions are available from September to November. The goal of the study is to understand residents’ perceptions and priorities for their neighborhood environment and to incorporate the information into Boston planning workshops.

My Dot Tour is a collaborative program that empowers youth and community through celebrating Fields Corner’s multicultural history. Based on a model made successful by mytown, inc. in the South End and Lower Roxbury, MyDotTour brings this innovative program to Dorchester—Boston’s largest and oldest neighborhood, founded in 1630. MyDotTour youth tour leaders meet weekly to learn about their community, research its history, and create a walking tour of the Fields Corner area. Urban Park Advocates Summit, Oct. 4
The Urban Park Advocates Summit is a day-long gathering for people involved with and committed to making Massachusetts’s cities healthier and more vibrant by having quality green spaces in all of our urban neighborhoods. The parks, gardens, and greenways in our cities are key ingredients for public health, food security, energy conservation, community development, recreation, youth development, summer jobs, and more.
Summit participants will glean relevant information, helpful connections, and the inspiration necessary to advance quality urban green spaces in their neighborhoods.
A team of nonprofits and agencies across Massachusetts created this Summit to be an inspiring, learning opportunity that demonstrates how investments in urban parks, gardens, greenways ARE investments that advance environmental quality, economic prosperity, and social justice.
The Summit is happening on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 8:30 am-5:00 pm, Mechanics Hall, Worcester, MA. There is a small registration fee – anyone who cannot afford it, please request a DEHC scholarship to attend – 617-474-1478.
Green & Grow Apprenticeship Program
The Green & Grow Apprenticeship Program is a workforce development program that helps young Bostonians between the ages of 17 and 20 become effective and reliable employees through working and learning in an urban park. The program combines job readiness training, career exploration, environmental education, academic support, team-building, personal attention from mentors and attractive compensation.
The Green & Grow Apprenticeship Program runs after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as on Saturdays, for ten months during the school year.

Youth Environmental Training Institute opportunity – apply now!
The National Hispanic Environmental Council (NHEC) is accepting applications from qualified teens, aged 16–19 from across the country, to attend its 10th annual “Minority Youth Environmental Training Institute”, to be held August 12–21, 2011, in Glorieta, New Mexico for free.
The Institute is an intensive, science-based, residential, and highly educational 10 day program to be held in Northern New Mexico this August. Using classroom and outdoor settings, the Institute is designed to help create the environmental leaders of tomorrow by educating, engaging, and inspiring youth, especially Latinos and other minorities, to a range of environmental, natural resource and energy topics. TFP Community Greenhouse Proposals, Deadline Jul. 20
The Food Project (TFP), with support from the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative (DSNI), is seeking partners to share community space in the recently opened Dudley Greenhouse. The Dudley Greenhouse is a 10,000-square-foot facility in the Dudley Neighborhood of Roxbury. Owned by DSNI and leased by The Food Project, the greenhouse operates year-round as a food production and educational space.
Space is open to groups serving the neighborhoods of Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan, with priority given to projects that directly serve the Dudley Neighborhood. The RFP can be found on The Food Project website. Applications are due July 20th, 2011.
Interested groups and individuals are encouraged to visit the greenhouse and meet with the Greenhouse Manager Danielle Andrews in advance of submitting a proposal. Newest activity by DEHC partner Fields Corner Collaborative – they are currently seeking summer interns for My Dot Tour 2011, a multimedia walking tour of Fields Corner’s past, present, and future led by local youth. The tour will need the help of tour guides (ages 14-18) to assist in developing content and choosing tour stops. This is a paid internship, participants will receive a stipend for 10 hours per week from July 5 to August 14. Auditions are at 4 p.m. on June 20 at 1452 Dorchester Avenue, 3rd Floor – Interested?
